Huduma Centres have tremendously improved Government services to wananchi, CS Kariuki

Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Mrs. Sicily Kariuki on Wednesday said that the delivery of government services to wananchi has now become a quick, dignified and efficient process, courtesy of the Huduma Kenya programme.
Noting that the programme initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013, CS Kariuki said the model of doing business has improved tremendously compared to earlier services which were characterized by long static queues and filing of piles of forms.
“The Jubilee government’s decision to initiate the Huduma Centre program was also informed by the changing needs of citizens, fueled by a more educated and technologically savvy population,” CS Kariuki said.
The CS made the remarks when she hosted a delegation of the Parliamentarians Network of the World Bank and IMF at Telposta Huduma Centre in Nairobi.
The Delegation from 20 different countries was led by the Parliamentary Network vice President Ms. Olfa Soukri Cherif from Tunisia.
Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo accompanied the delegation.
To upscale the Huduma Centre services to reach as many wananchi as possible across the country, CS Kariuki revealed that the government has initiated the Huduma Mashinani services to serve wananchi at the lowest administrative levels; the wards.
CS Kariuki noted that the Huduma services are offered in the 45 Huduma Centres across in the counties and have helped speed up the desired government services.
“This program which is of its kind in East Africa utilizes the integrated service delivery concept, a globally accepted standard for public service delivery,” she added.
The innovative integrated approach allows Huduma Centres to provide over 60 government services under one roof in centers across the country, key among them NHIF services, ID application and replacement, driver’s license application and renewal, business permits application, birth certificate application among others.
On her part, Ms. Cherif said her delegation was delighted by high standards of services being offered by the government to its citizens through this concept.
